hristmas is almost upon us, and no doubt things are kicking into overdrive for your Q4 marketing and sales. The malls have their decorations ready, the never ending carols have started and the festive bod is well on it’s way to being hidden by an ugly sweater.

So 2020 might feel like it is miles away, but in actuality it is only 6 short weeks to the new year. Get focused and laser in on your vision for what your business can do in 2020.

Here are 5 simple tips to make things happen

Fail To Plan Plan to Fail

Now is the time, break out the calendar, don’t spend next year like you have this one chasing your tail trying to keep up. Its amazing what you can get done when you are organised so why not use the time to get your year planned. Both professional and personal, schedule those campaigns AND the holidays.

Check your vision, are you still heading in the same direction, what’s changed? What adjustments need to be made?

Set some BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goals)  goals

These are a powerful way to stimulate progress. A BHAG is clear and compelling, needing little explanation; people get it right away. Think of the NASA moon mission of the 1960s. The best BHAGs require both building for the long term AND exuding a relentless sense of urgency: What do we need to do today, with monomaniacal focus, and tomorrow, and the next day, to defy the probabilities and ultimately achieve our BHAG? Imagine what you can achieve if you dare to dream big enough.

Watch Trends but don’t chase them

It’s important to know what your competitors, industry and economy are up to. As no business operates in a bubble. Staying aware can help you seize opportunities, avoid pitfalls, and stay ahead of the game. However if you are just following you have no chance to be a leader and your customers will eventually look to price as the only reason to buy your product. So get your head out of the sand but don’t be a lemming and follow your competitors off a cliff.

Budget take some of the profits off the tables

Hopefully your Q4 is going well and money is rushing in like never before, now is a great time to incorporate budgets into your planning. Had a lean Q2 this year, well maybe leave a little extra fat in the business to see you through. Want to do some R and D on a new product? Now is the time to allocate and invest. Been thinking of trialling some other marketing strategies? Take some of your hard earned profit and redistribute. Finally dont forget Santa comes but once a year so make sure your ad budgets adjust back when the silly season is over.

Use the downtime to get to the tasks that are stuck on the todo list

Been meaning to rework your site copy looking a little stale, thinking about sampling new products or changing suppliers use the lull to get things done. Better yet, plan your time so you know you get it done. We all have that couple of items that we just can’t seem to get to seize the moment and get these niggling items off your list.

Take these simple tips and turn your 2020 into a year that you can be proud of.
